TRAVEL to FRANCE to BUY ANTIQUES
![]() |
Proposed trip
to Provence November 2006 November 14-21 are the dates for the next trip to France to make the search for antiques. My husband and I will take six people for the trip. We will fly to Paris, take the TGV (France's fast train) for the two-hour trip to Lyon where we will spend one night. After visiting the antiques market there, we will pick up cars to drive to Provence. The next night will be spent near Orange. L'Isle-sur-Sorgue is the location for the following three nights. We'll get back on the TGV in Avignon for the trip back to Paris. Cost is $2950 per person and includes airfare from Cincinnati; all lodging; breakfasts and dinners; taxi, train, and car transportation. The airfare can be deducted if you prefer to arrange your own air travel to Paris. Contact me if you have possible interest in a trip. I can give names of people who have gone with me in the past if you would like references. We will stay in charming inns or small hotels. Meals on the past trips have been outstanding and I will do my best to make certain that they would again be as good. Dining in France is usually a joy and meals are always an important part of my trips to France. I will make all arrangements for the trip. A deposit of $1000 should be paid immediately in order to confirm airline tickets and commitment to the trip. The remaining amount of $1950 is due October 15, 2006. Once booked, airline tickets will be non-refundable. In case of cancellation, I would refund any amount that could be refunded to me. As of May 16, 2006 only two spots remain open for the trip.

I will help with translation and negotiation for purchases and will then arrange for shipping. The buyer's shipping costs will include shipping to Danville, KY in the US (transportation elsewhere at the cost of the buyer), custom and port-of-entry fees, minimum insurance coverage for catastrophic loss, plus 15% of that total to cover my fees and services. Costs could also include further shipping charges within the U.S. Goods over 100 years old are not subject to duty upon entry in the U.S. Items less than 100 years will be subject to duty. I will not be able to tell you in advance the exact cost of your shipping. 50% of the purchase price is a rough estimate.

Purchasing and shipping from abroad involve some risk. I use a reputable, well-established shipper who has several locations in France and England. We will cover insurance against catastrophic loss; additional coverage will be the choice of the buyer. Purchaser must accept some risk.
Purchaser should be prepared to pay 15-20% of the purchase price to the seller at the time of purchase and the remainder to me immediately upon return to the U.S. Some merchants may not require any deposit, but will hold the goods for 1-2 weeks until the shipper comes for them. Some merchants may accept Visa or Mastercard.
Upon return to the U.S., I will transfer money to the shipper, who then pays the merchants. The shipper will pick up the goods only after receiving the money for the full purchase price. Shipping fees are paid at the time the goods leave France. Your portion of the fees may be paid to me upon their arrival in the U.S.
The purchaser can expect a 2-4 month wait for the delivery of the goods. A large order and/or good luck with connections could shorten this time. If there are enough items to fill a container, the relative shipping price will be lower.
The rewards of purchasing your own antiques in France, enjoying the experience of shopping for them, and finding some wonderful "buys" can more than compensate for the shipping costs, the wait to receive the items, and the risk involved. Contact me if you are interested in this type of trip.
